The Indian Coast Guard ship Kasturba Gandhi deployed in the Karnataka coast rescued 24 fishermen stranded at Arabean Sea 15 nautical miles from Bhatkal coast today. Due to strong winds and swell, the fishing boat Qamrul Bahar had lost propulsion owing to engine failure. The owner of the fishing boat in distress had requested the fisheries department for rescue.
Based on the request from the department, the Coast guard carried out a search and rescue operation and all the fishermen were safely shifted and brought to the shore today morning.
A press release issued by the Coast guard says that electronic surveillance is maintained in the area to shepherd fishing boats in the area. The weather forecast says that strong wind reaching speed of 45 to 55 kilometers per hour is likely to prevail along the coast and fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.
