Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said that his government is committed to providing Maratha reservation. In a statement after chairing a high-level meeting on the issue, Mr. Thackeray said the government is consulting legal experts, community members and opposition parties so that the Maratha community can continue to enjoy the reservation benefits.

He asked political parties to refrain from instigating the Maratha community as such actions would be dealt with a firm hand.

This comes days after the Supreme Court ordered a stay on the Maharashtra Government’s law, providing reservation to Maratha community in jobs and education.

Meanwhile, NCP President Sharad Pawar has said that the government is considering bringing in an ordinance so that there is no unrest among the community.

Earlier today, demonstrations were held in Jalna and Solapur districts against the Supreme Court’s order.
