Bharatiya Janata Party has issued a Whip to its Rajya Sabha members to be present in the House on September 14.
The MPs have been asked to be present in the House after a attempts by the Congress-led opposition to field a candidate against the official National Democratic Alliance nominee and JDU leader Harivansh.
Sources said that the party has issued a whip as it wants to ensure that the NDA candidate is elected to the post smoothly.
Janta Dal United (JDU ) Rajya Sabha MP from Bihar Harivansh today filed nomination as NDA Candidate for the post of Deputy Chairman of the Upper House.
The last date for Nomination filing is 11 September 12 noon.
It is understood that the NDA government is also trying to build consensus for the election of Deputy Chairman. Several senior leaders from the alliance are in talks with various opposition parties to evolve a consensus on the issue.
Total strength of Rajya Sabha is 245 and parties like TRS , YSRCP, BJD and AIADMK are likely to support to NDA Candidate Harivansh.
Harivansh is second time Rajya Sabha MP from Bihar and has already held the post of Deputy Chairman Rajya Sabha during his last tenure in the House .
