Heavy rain have thrown normal life out of gear in more than ten districts of Tamil Nadu. The advent of the north east monsoon has by and large hit the southern and the western districts heavily. Storage in the reservoirs and water bodies are increasing steadily and round the clock vigil has been maintained in all. District Administrations have been asked to take precautionary steps and take necessary action in situations endangering lives. Revenue officials, State Electricity Department and Health Department officials have been coordinating with the State Disaster Management Authority officials to take immediate remedial measures.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy has announced an ex gratia of four lakh rupees to the family of those deceased in the house collapse due to heavy rainfall at Coimbatore early this morning.
Seventeen persons died in the house collapse due to heavy rains. He took a review meeting with senior Ministers of the Cabinet this morning. He has asked the District Administrations of the rain affected districts to immediately release the insurance amount for the farmers whose agricultural lands are flooded.
According to the Met officials, heavy rainfall is predicted for the southern districts.
