Mumbai Police ask commuters to avoid water-logged areas and also to maintain distance from the sea

Heavy rains continue to lash Mumbai for the fourth consecutive day today. The torrential rains resulted in the flooding of several areas and affecting air and rail traffic in the city.
17 flights were diverted from the Mumbai airport on Friday due to incessant downpour. Several parts of the city including Sion, Matunga, Mahim, Andheri, Malad and Dahisar area are submerged.
Local train services are also hit by the incessant rainfall. Five battalions of NDRF teams have been deployed in various parts of Mumbai to rescue stranded people.
Roadside and railway traffic continue to remain affected. As many as 11 air flights were cancelled today due to low visibility. Several long and short distance rains are also cancelled or diverted on the central railway.
Due to heavy rains and flood-like situation near Kalyan Since last night, Mumbai-Kolhapur Mahalaxmi Express is held up between Vangani and Badlapur,100 kilometres away from Mumbai.
Around thousand passengers were stranded in this train. According to central railway spokesperson A K Jain as many as 550 passengers were safely rescued with the help of Team of NDRF and 8 flood rescue teams from Navy He added that Navy Helicopters were also operating in the rescue process.
Mumbai Police requested commuters to avoid water-logged areas and also to maintain distance from the sea. Meanwhile, according to IMD intermittent rain with heavy to very heavy downpour is expected in Mumbai and suburban areas in the next 48 hours.
