India takes on England at Birmingham today at 3 p.m. While an unbeaten India is a win away from making it to the top four, a loss for England will put them on the brink of a World Cup exit as England have already lost three pool matches.
In the match played at Lord’s yesterday, defending champions Australia, who are already into the semis, strengthened their position at the top of the 10-team table when they defeated the Kiwis by 86 runs.
In the other game played at Leeds, Pakistan moved to the fourth spot with a three-wicket win over Afghanistan. Australia are at the top of the table with 14 points from eight matches, while unbeaten India, who play hosts England at Birmingham today, are second with 11 points from six games. New Zealand are third with 11 points from eight matches. Pakistan are fourth with nine points from eight games.
England is fifth with eight points, followed by Bangladesh at the sixth spot and Sri Lanka at seventh. South Africa, West Indies and Afghanistan are the bottom three and they are out of the semi-final race.
