Taking sou motu action on a press report, Delhi Minorities Commission has issued a notice to Republic TV to explain why its reporters tried to force their way into Taj Enclave and when they failed, why they continued their reporting from outside the colony’s gates and later from their studios. This harassed the residents of the Muslim-dominated colony and created a sense of insecurity among its residents.
In its notice, DMC told Republic TV that forceful entry into a private property is a crime under Section 441 of IPC while defamation of individuals or a community is a well-known crime. DMC further told Republic TV in its notice, “you are further reminded that individual and personal freedoms of a citizen are sacrosanct and supersede press freedoms and TRP concerns of channels.” DMC has directed Republic TV to reply by 24 April enclosing a CD of the concerned reporting on Taj Enclave on and around 9 April.
