Election Commission has expressed displeasure over NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar’s remarks on Minimum Income Guarantee Scheme promised by the Congress.

In its order, the poll panel has termed Mr Kumar’s comments violation of model code of conduct saying it expects that he will exercise caution in future. Mr Kumar had described Congress promise of Income Guarantee Scheme as vote bank politics saying it can destabilise the country’s economy.

The Commission said that the spirit of model code of conduct requires all public servants to ensure the sanctity of electoral process, not to either engage in or appear to engage in any activities which can disturb the level playing field.

The Commission said that public servants should not only be impartial in their conduct but also in their public utterances which was found wanting in the instant case.
