The All India Unani Tibbi Congress has reiterated its demand for the establishment of National University of Unani Medicine and an All India Institute of Unani Medicine at par with All India Institute of Ayurveda.
During World Unani Medicine Day Celebrations here recently the All India Unani Tibbi Congress adopted following resolutions
Considering enormous and unparalleled contributions of Late Hakeem Ajmal Khan in survival and promotion of traditional Indian Systems of Medicine Ayurveda and Unani Medicine in particular both in the field of education and research, it is requested that Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India should consider establishment of National University of Unani Medicine to be named after Hakeem Ajmal Khan in Delhi. This shall be a befitting tribute to his unending interest in expansion and development of Unani System of Medicine in this country.

Long standing demand of lovers of Unani Medicine in general and Unani Medicine fraternity in particular for establishment of All India Institute of Unani Medicine at par with All India Institute of Ayurveda may be expeditiously taken up by the Government of India, Ministry of AYUSH so that this Institute comes into existence without any further delay. The need of such a centre of excellence in the fields of Unani Medicine practice, education and research is seriously felt in this country and the Institute will contribute in globalization of the merits of this system of medicine.

Policy of Govt. of India to have AYUSH components in newly established All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in various parts of the country has been applauded by one and all and in this connection it is requested that while establishing these AYUSH health care components in AIIMS, facilities of treatment with all AYUSH disciplines like Ayurveda and Unani be made equally available so that the benefits of merits of all AYUSH systems of medicine reach everyone in need of.

It has been given to understand that Ministry of Health, Govt. of India in consultation with Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India is planning to open new AYUSH dispensaries in CGHS centres all over the country. In this connection, it is requested and hoped that equal number of Unani and Ayurveda dispensaries are sanctioned so that the patients can have the facilities of treatment through all AYUSH systems under the same roof.

While applauding Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine for its achievements in the field of scientific research in Unani System of Medicine which has led to better understanding of its merits and its larger acceptability across the table, it has been noted with displeasure that there are several research positions lying vacant in the Institutes and Units of the Council which in turn adversely affects their working. Keeping this in view it is requested that all vacant posts/positions may be filled up on an urgent basis and till such time it is done the Director-General, CCRUM may kindly appoint Research Consultants and/or Research Associates for fixed duration so that research work and patient care does not suffer.

Govt. of India, Ministry of AYUSH approved the proposal of CCRUM for starting PG and Ph.D. courses in the specialities of Moalajat and Ilmul Advia in CRIUM, Hyderabad and RRIUM, Srinagar in 2016 and the third batch have been admitted this year in both these centres. As initial permission for these courses was granted by the Ministry of AYUSH for three years and keeping in view the fact that these courses are running well and the results of University examinations of the students so far suggest that the teaching in these centres is going well and even better than other centres/colleges/ institutions under the same University, it is hoped that the Ministry of AYUSH will extend the permission already granted so that continuity in admissions is maintained and well trained academicians/researchers/ Unani medicine specialist become available to the nation.

Unani Chair as established by Govt. of India in South Africa is lying vacant since 2016, it is requested that someone suitable for the position may please be appointed and made to join there as early as possible so that necessary guidance is provided to the School of Natural Medicine for quality education and practice of Unani Medicine in that country. It is further requested that many more such Unani Medicine Chairs may be established in other countries including Europe, America, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia and UAE where interest in traditional and herbal systems of medicine is on increase and the suffering humanity is in search of alternative systems of treatment.
