LAHORE / AMN
More than 90 members of hardline religious parties have been arrested from different parts of Punjab province in Pakistan for holding demonstrations against the Supreme Court’s decision to reject a review plea against the acquittal of Christian woman Aasia Bibi in a blasphemy case.
Punjab Police spokesperson Nabila Ghazanfar said that most arrests have been made from Lahore, Gujranwala and Ralwapindi.
Yesterday, Supreme Court rejected a review petition against its decision to acquit Aasia Bibi who was on death row for eight years on charges of blasphemy.
Bibi, a 47-year-old mother of four, who is now in protective custody, was convicted in 2010 after being accused of insulting Islam in a row with her neighbours.
