Around 75 per cent voter turnout was recorded for both Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram Assembly elections till 5 PM for which polling was held on Wednesday.

In Madhya Pradesh, polling was held for 230 seats while in Mizoram, it was held for 40 seats. In the previous Assembly elections, the total polling percentage was 72.13 per cent in Madhya Pradesh and in Mizoram, it was 83.41 per cent.

Briefing media in New Delhi this evening, Deputy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain said, the polling was peaceful and incident free in Mizoram.

Deputy Election Commissioner Chandrabhushan Kumar said in Madhya Pradesh, the election was conducted smoothly and it remained peaceful. He said, polling in three constituencies under Left Wing Extremism affected areas was encouraging.

In reply to a question regarding the use of social media platforms by political parties to appeal for votes on the poll day, DG of Election Commission Dhirendra Ojha said, the Commission has written to Twitter and Facebook to adhere to the Representation of People Act.

EC has asked them to comply with the provisions of the Act to ensure that no violation takes place.
