Dozens of people have been killed in a series of attacks in southern Syria.  A man blew himself up at a market in the government-held city of Sweida on Wednesday morning, while attacks around the same time also occurred in villages in the city’s suburbs.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the civil war, says 75 people have been killed, including government soldiers.

Syrian state-run media described the incidents as terrorist attacks targeting civilians, and said Islamic State militants were responsible. They also reported that the attackers were killed.

Government forces recently took control of most of the country’s southern area amid an intense drive to wipe out the remaining Islamic State militants and their affiliates.
