India held World Number Two England 1-1 in their opening match of the women’s hockey World Cup in London yesterday. In the Pool B encounter, Neha Goyal gave India the lead in the 25th minute before Lily Owsley equalised from a penalty corner in the 54th minute for the hosts.

India will play Ireland in their next Pool B match on Thursday. It will be followed by the pool fixture against the United States on July 29.
A total of 16 teams, divided into four groups, are taking part in the tournament.

The Netherlands who are the defending champions, are in Group-A with South Korea, Italy and China. Group-C comprises Argentina, Germany, Spain and South Africa, while Pool-D features Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Belgium.
In today’s matches, Australia will meet Japan, China will face Italy, Argentina will take on Spain, the Netherlands will play against South Korea, and New Zealand is pitted against Belgium
