In the poll-bound Karnataka, filing of nominations came to an end today. The scrutiny of nominations will take place tomorrow and the last date to withdraw nominations is April 27th.
In Badami assembly constituency, BJP has fielded B Sriramulu to counter Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Both the candidates have filed nominations today and both are contesting from two seats. Siddaramaiah is fighting election from Chamundeshwari and Sriramulu is contesting from Molkalamuru apart from their face off in Badami.
BJP has fielded T. Basavarajappa from Varuna segment against Congress candidate Dr. Yathindra, son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Both the candidates are fighting the election for the first time from Varuna, which is erstwhile constituency of Siddaramaiah.
Meanwhile election campaign has gained momentum in Karnataka. The battle has now reached the doors of the Election Commission with the BJP meeting EC officials in Delhi with a demand for free and fair polls in the state.
The party submitted a memorandum alleging that the ruling Congress in Karnataka is resorting to all sorts of malpractices to rig the assembly elections.
Today on the last day of filing nominations for the May 12 assembly polls, state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah filed his nomination from Badami Assembly seat and BJP candidate B Sriamulu also filed his nomination from the same seat.
BJP on Monday released 4th list of 7 candidates raising the total number of candidates fielded by the party to 220. Very soon PM Modi will be joining the campaign trail.
Congress has already released its list of candidates for all the seats.
Results will be announced on 15th May.
