India’s Chief Economic Adviser, Arvind Subramanian has said India-US ties have been extremely well on the strategic and defence fronts. The relationship can realise its full potential with stronger economic bond between the two nations.
Mr. Subramanian was speaking in Washington at the launch of Washington-chapter of CUTS International, an Indian think-tank. Mr. Subramanian who is currently in Washington to attend the annual Spring Meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank said there are some aspects of the India-US relationship which are doing extremely well, especially on the strategic side and the defence side.
India has not benefited from open global trading system in the past and its economic fortunes in the long run depends on an open trading system, he said it is important for both the countries to work towards sustaining this open relationship.
Asserting that the Indo-Pacific is going to continue to be the world’s economic center for long, Subramanian said India has to be well positioned to both contribute to and take advantage of this kind of opportunity.
