Good Friday, the day commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, is being observed across the world today. Prayers and masses have been organised in the Churches and Chapels. On this day, priests narrate the sufferings that Jesus Christ took upon himself for the sake of humanity.
Christians across two Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are observing the Good Friday today, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and His death at Calvary. Good Friday falls after 40 days of fasting prayers. In Hyderabad and Secunderabad twin cities, Christians from all strata of society congregate in the churches to meditate upon the seven words that Lord Jesus Christ uttered on the cross, experiencing excruciating pain and agony.
The famous churches in twin cities such as 177-year-old St. Mary’s Basilica church, Lutheran Church, centenary Wesley and Baptist churches and Millenium Methodist Church hold traditional prayers on the occasion. Our correspondent reports that devotees in large numbers witness Passion Plays, the enactment of Jesus Christ suffering till his crucifixion on the cross, exclusively at St. Joseph’s and All Saints’ churches. Piety in overwhelming numbers offers prayers at Asia’s famous church CSI Cathedral in Medak of Telangana.
Good Friday is also being observed in Goa today. Masses and processions are being held which are integral to Good Friday at all churches and chapels in Goa. In Panaji, large crowds have gathered at the square of the Church of Mary Immaculate Conception to participate in the mass. The mass describes the sufferings of Jesus Christ. Other events including the re-enactment of the path Jesus took before the Crucifixion are also organised.
Clergymen take out a special procession with a cross from the church premises accompanied by music bands. The day is spent in prayer and repentance on the suffering of Jesus Christ. The symbolic washing of disciples’ feet by priests marked the Maundy Thursday services at churches yesterday. Archbishop of Goa and Daman Filipe Neri Ferrao presided over the Holy Thursday services at the Se Cathedral in Old Goa.
Nagaland today joins the world in observing the Good Friday. Special sermons on salvation and special prayer services for repentance and forgiveness are being held in Churches across the State. Some churches also organized processions to remember the walk of Jesus Christ to Mount Calvary carrying the cross to redeem humankind from sin.
