Had I been PM, I would have thrown demonetisation proposal into dustbin: Rahul

AMN/ Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)

Rahul_GandhiCongress president Rahul Gandhi today said that had he been prime minister he would have thrown the file proposing demonetisation of currency notes into dustbin.

After addressing the Indian Diaspora here Rahul, in reply to a question as to how he would have handled demonetisation differently, said, ‘if I had been the Prime Minister and had received a file with demonetisation written on it, I would have thrown it in the dustbin. Out through the door and into the junkyard, because that’s what I think should be done with demonetisation.’

In reply to another question as to how he would deal with the issue of women empowerment under his leadership, Rahul said, ‘I actually treat women better than men.. I think there is a bias in all societies, including the west, against women and that bias needs to be corrected. To remove that bias, giving equality to women is not good enough. You actually have to be partial to women and you actually have to give them more support than men..’

Earlier in the day, Rahul addressed a gathering of young professionals at IYCON in Kuala Lumpur.

Businessmen of Indian origin who met Congress President Rahul Gandhi in Malaysia said that the Indian community and their interests have been neglected by the present government.

While assuaging their concerns, Rahul said: We value actionable solutions over rhetoric. I assure you that your interests will be suitably addressed in the Congress Party’s manifesto.’

The Congress President met business Executives of the Malaysia India Business Council, ASEAN India Business Council, Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Consortium of Indian Industries in Malaysia.

He also met Tun Samy Vellu, the longest-serving president of the Malaysian Indian Congress, and Mr. Subramaniam Sathasivam, President of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) in Kuala Lumpur.

Originally a part of the AICC until 1946, the MIC has played a major role in the Malaysian Independence Movement..
The INA had marched from here in it’s attempt to liberate India.

Rahul is on a three day visit to Singapore and Malaysia, seen as efforts to increase his outreach to the NRI community, after the success of his recent visits to the US and Bahrain.
