Latest Reports says death toll due to accident has gone up to 91
About 63 people are feared killed and more than 100 injured when 14 coaches of Indore-Patna Express derailed near Kanpur early morning today. According to railway spokesperson 14 boggies of train going from Indore to Rajendra Nagar in Patna derailed at Pukhrayan, about 60 kilometres from Kanpur.
According to Kanpur DM, at least 63 people have lost their lives. Around 60 passengers are also injured after the train accident.
Several passengers have been reported injured in the mishap. Medical teams have been rushed to the site of the accident to attend to the injured. The Rescue operation is underway in full swing.
Sources said that casualty figure may rise further. Rescue operation is underway. The senior Administrative and Railway Officers are on the spot. Further details are awaited. Union Home Minister spoke to Railway Minister over phone on the accident. Mr. Singh has directed Director General NDRF to extend all possible help.
Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has said all possible mobilisation for relief has been initiated. The Minister said Rail mobile medical units have rushed to site with immediate medical help and all injured rushed to hospitals. In a series of tweets the Railway Minister said enquiry has been ordered and Strictest possible action will be taken against those responsible for accident. Mr. Prabhu added Minister of State for Railways is also going to the accident spot.
Railways have set up helpline numbers 0612-2202290, 2202291 and 2202292 at Patna Junction in view of Indore-Patna train accident. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his anguish on the loss of lives due to the derailing of the Indore-Patna express.
In a Twitter message, he said that his thoughts are with the bereaved families. Prime Minister prays for injured in the tragic train accident. He has spoken to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu who is personally monitoring the situation closely.
