At least 50 passengers feared dead in a bus accident in Madhubani district of Bihar when a bus fell in roadside water lodged deep gorge on Monday afternoon. The accident site is 40 Km from the district headquarter.

20 bodies have been recovered so far. District Magistrate Girivar Dayal Singh told media persons that search operation is still on to locate more bodies.

National Disaster Response Force ( NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force ( SDRF ) teams have been pressed into service. The ill fated bus was going from Madhubani to Sitamarhi. The accident occurred near Shivnagar village under Benipatti police station of the district when driver lost control over the vehicle.

According to eye witnesses over 50 passengers were travelling in the ill fated bus. Expressing grief over the incident Chief Minister instructed two of his cabinet colleagues Madan Mohan Jha and Kapildeo Kamat to rush the site and oversee rescue operation.

The state government has announced four lakh rupees ex-gratia to next of the kin of the deceased.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief at the bus accident in Bihar’s Madhubani district. In a tweet, Mr. Modi said, his thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief.
