Met office forecast good rainfall in the country

Three people have lost their lives in Kerala in monsoon-related calamities in the high ranges of Idukki district, as monsoon has intensified in almost all parts of the State. Loss of properties and destruction to standing crops has been reported from different parts.

The monsoon, which touched the Kerala coast two days ago had advanced into most parts of coastal Karnataka and some parts of Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Much to the delight of the farming community in Andhra Pradesh, the South-West monsoon hit the State from the Chittoor-Nellore side.

Met authorities have already predicted good rains across the state this year and making the prediction come true, light to moderate rains were reported from across Andhra Pradesh yesterday.

According to the weather officials Under the influence of the monsoon, south coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema are likely to get normal rains favouring agricultural activities in the Kharif.

The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights on Thursday directed that schools should not insist on students to wear shoes and socks during the rainy season.

The Commission has asked the State Government and the CBSE, to direct the authorities of all schools in the State to comply with its directions. A division bench comprising Shobha Koshy and K. Nazeer has also called for an action taken report within ten days.

The Commission’s directive came in the wake of a petition filed by a parent stating that children were developing health problems because of wearing shoes and socks throughout the day.

It is pointed out that there are instances of schools insisting students on bringing an extra pair of socks for change over, during rainy season. The issue has since attracted wide public attention.
