The Election Commission has said that it is committed to 100 per cent deployment of VVPATs at all polling stations in the 2019 General election, as well as bye-elections to the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies.

In a statement, the Commission said the supply of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the Voter-verifiable paper audit trails (VVPTs) is on track and it is not a matter of concern.

The Commission said, in order to meet the requirement of 100 per cent VVPATs for all polling stations for the upcoming Lok Sabha Election in 2019, it has placed an order of 17 lakh 45 thousand VVPATs to Bharat Electronics Limited, Bangalore and Electronics Corporation of India Limited, Hyderabad.

The Election Commission said, till now nine lakh 45 thousand units have been produced by the PSUs. Both PSUs have assured the Commission that the remaining eight lakh VVPAT units will be manufactured and supplied to the various States and Union Territories comfortably before the end of November this year.
