ECIOver 78 per cent polling has been recorded in the fifth phase of Assembly elections in West Bengal Saturday. The polling was held in 53 Assembly Constituencies spread of three districts of the State- Hoogly, Kolkata South and South 24-Parganas.

In 2011 assembly elections, 82.77 per cent voter turnout was registered in these constituencies. Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena said, elaborate security arrangements were in place to ensure free and fair elections during this phase .

He said, the polling was by and large peaceful barring some stray incidents.He said, three FIRs have also been registered in various cases..
