varanasi-satmpedeThe death toll has gone up to 25 in yesterday’s in Varanasi stampede incident.More than fifty injured people are being treated in different hospitals of the city.

Police told media that out of twenty five victims twenty dead bodies of victims have been identified so far. Meanwhile the Uttar Pradesh Government had suspened five police officers including SP City and SP Traffic of Varanasi.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had ordered magistrate inquiry into the incident.The stampede happened at Rajghat bridge in Ramnagar area when thousands of followers of Jai Gurudev sect were passing through the bridge.

The Prime Minister and state chief minister both have announced financial assistance to the next of kin of victims and for injured persons.

The state government has also instructed to district administration and medical department to ensure free treatment of injured people.

Five officials suspended for negligence

Uttar Pradesh Government has suspended five police officers including two Superintendents of Police following yesterday’s stampede that claimed 24 lives and left 50 others injured in Varanasi.

The incident took place on an over crowded Raj Ghat bridge on the border of Varanasi and Chandauli districts when followers of a religious leader were crossing it to attend a congregation. The state government has also ordered a Magisterial inquiry into the incident.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed anguish over the incident and announced a solatium of two lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased and fifty thousand rupees to those injured.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has also announced an ex-gratia of five lakh rupees each to the next kin of those killed and free treatment to the injured.
