Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that use of force against protesting students in Jharkhand is wrong, while urging the Hemant Soren-led Congress-JMM government to resolve their issues immediately.
“The use of force against students protesting in Jharkhand is wrong. Students have a right to peaceful protest, and only dialogue can yield solutions. The Jharkhand government must continue to hear these students out and resolve their issues immediately,” Gandhi said.
His reaction came shortly after the Jharkhand police crackdown against students during their march to the state Assembly.
As the students reached the Vidhan Sabha gate, police resorted to lathicharge to disperse them.
Tear gas shells were also fired on protestors, prompting a scathing response from the Opposition BJP, which criticised the police action.Politics
“After the lathi charge, tear gas shells are now also being fired at the students who are peacefully protesting,” BJP leader Amit Malviya said on X.
