US President Donald Trump has said, he was negotiating with the Democrats to end a partial government shutdown. In a tweet, Mr Trump said, it could be a long stay due to continued discrepancy on his long-time demand of building a wall along the US-Mexico border.

The US House and Senate was convened yesterday on Capitol Hill, hoping to reach a deal to end the partial government shutdown after failed attempts to end a budget impasse over a 5-billion US dollar bill that Mr Trump wanted to build the wall.

According to US media, the partial shutdown is set to affect nine of 15 Cabinet-level departments and dozens of agencies. More than 8 lakh federal employees would have to go to work without pay or will be furloughed.

It is the third US federal government shutdown this year. The January and February shutdowns involved disputes over immigration.
