Top leaders of the United States and Japan met for talks in Washington on Friday aimed at reaching a deal with their mutual adversary North Korea.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo welcomed Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono for talks.
The meeting comes nearly two months after US President Donald Trump walked away from a summit in Hanoi with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Trump and his wife Melania will travel to Japan in May as the first state guests following the enthronement of Naruhito as emperor.
