The United States has deployed at least 15 naval ships in the Middle East, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and 11 destroyers, as part of a blockade of Iran’s ports. The ships are currently spread across the region and may directly take part in the operation.
The fleet also includes the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group, made up of USS Tripoli, USS New Orleans, and USS Rushmore, along with other support vessels. These ships would need to pass through the Suez Canal or sail around Africa to reach key positions.
The move comes after talks in Pakistan failed to resolve tensions over Iran’s nuclear program. US President Donald Trump ordered the blockade, saying Iran must not develop nuclear weapons.
Trump warned that if Iran does not agree to a deal by the end of a two-week ceasefire, there could be serious consequences. He also said the US wants to recover enriched uranium from Iran and is prepared to act if necessary.
