Flames, Toxic Smoke and Safety Lapses Claim 15 Young Lives; Absence of fire preparedness, overloaded electrical systems and blocked escape routes intensified the disaster

At least 15 students were dead after a massive fire broke out at a building housing a coaching centre in the Aliganj area of northwest Lucknow on Monday, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said. Several people were trapped after the fire erupted, forcing some students to jump from the first floor.
The fire raged for over an hour and at least 14 bodies were recovered after it was brought under control.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak visited the fire spot to monitor the ongoing rescue and relief efforts.
Following the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath cancelled his engagements in Aligarh and Hathrash and reached the fire site. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is also scheduled to visit Lucknow in wake of the tragedy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also extended condolences and announced ex gratia for the victims.

President Murmu Extends ‘Heartfelt Condolences’
President Droupadi Murmu extends “heartfelt condolences” to the families of victims. In a post on X, she says: “The news of the deaths of numerous people in the horrific fire accident that occurred in Lucknow is extremely heartbreaking. I express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives in a fire mishap in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. In a social media post, he announced an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees from Prime Minister National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each deceased.

Akhilesh Yadav Calls For ‘Honest Investigation’
Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav called for an “honest investigation” into the matter. “Our heartfelt tribute to those who lost their lives in the fire at a coaching center in Lucknow. Our deepest condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones. The government must ensure the best medical care for the injured. This is an extremely tragic incident. There should be an honest investigation into the causes behind it—those children could have belonged to anyone’s family. Preventing such heartbreaking accidents in the future should be our collective endeavor,” he says.
15 Bodies Brought, 21-22 Children Under Treatment, Says Hospital Official
Dr Amiya Agrawal, Medical Superintendent, Trauma Centre, KGMU, Lucknow says, “21-22 children have been brought here, five of them have injuries, they have been admitted, two of them who jumped, have injuries in back, CT scan has been done, they are being treated, 15 were brought dead, who will be sent to mortuary for autopsy, five have been sent, process to send other 10 is being done.”
