Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today said Russia launched 172 drones and 36 ballistic missiles in a massive overnight assault on Ukraine, with all the missiles reportedly targeting Kyiv and surrounding regions. At least one person was killed and eight others, including a child, were injured in the attacks on the Ukrainian capital and its surrounding areas. According to officials the strikes caused significant damage to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and a major bridge spanning the Dnipro River.
On the other hand, Moscow claimed that its forces had carried out a massive strike against targets in Ukraine’s military-industrial sector, as well as energy and transport infrastructure in and around Kyiv. Russia’s Defence Ministry also reported damage to energy facilities in the central Zhytomyr region.
The intensification of attacks comes just days ahead of another round of trilateral negotiations involving Ukraine, Russia and the United States in Abu Dhabi, scheduled for 10th and 11th of this month, as part of Washington’s efforts to broker an end to the conflict.
