Two militants were killed in an encounter in the uptown area of the summer capital Srinagar late last night. The gunfight took place around 11 hours after three policemen including an officer, were killed in twin militant attacks across the city earlier yesterday.
Senior superintendent of police Srinagar Amit Kumar told media an operation was launched on the basis of specific information about presence of militants in Saraibala area of Maharaj Bazar in Srinagar.
The gunfight ensued around 10.30 in the night after state policemen launched house to house search. In the subsequent encounter two militants were killed. SSP said both the militants were foreigners and identified one of the slain militants as Saifullah of Jaish e Mohammad militant outfit.
