Two Bangladesh Army soldiers were killed and an officer critically injured in an accident involving a tank during a field firing exercise in Chattogram on Wednesday (September 9), the military said.
The incident took place at the Hathazari Field Firing Range in Chattogram district while troops were conducting a field firing exercise. According to Bangladesh’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate, the accident occurred while firing was being carried out from a tank.
The two soldiers died in the incident, while the officer suffered serious injuries. The identities of the soldiers and the injured officer were not immediately disclosed.
The critically injured officer was being airlifted by helicopter to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka for advanced treatment, the ISPR said.
Authorities have initiated necessary measures to determine the cause of the accident. The military has not yet provided further details on what went wrong during the tank-firing exercise.
Hathazari, where the firing range is located, is in Chattogram district in southeastern Bangladesh.
