A top local militant was killed in anti militancy operation in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district today. Official sources said that acting on a specific information about the presence of some militants at Nagri village near Drugmulla in the district, the joint team of Army and J&K Police force personnel launched cordon and search operation in the area in the morning.
As the forces intensified the cordon operation in the area, the hiding militants opened fire upon them triggering off an encounter. In the ensuing gunfight one militant was killed.
The slain militant was identified as Hizbul Mujahideen divisional commander Sameer Wani of Dooru Sopore in Baramulla district. Last week, seven unidentified militants were killed in three separate encounters in the district.
Meanwhile, suspected militants today decamped with a service rifle of Personal Security Officer (PSO) of a BJP leader in Chadoora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
