Tension prevailed on the Osmania University Campus in Hyderabad following police resorting to preventive arrests to thwart Beef festival and demonstrations supporting Gau Pooja. BJP Legislator Raja Singh and about half a dozen student union leaders were detained to prevent activities other than education on the University Campus since yesterday.

Police cordoned off the entire area and conducted search operations to prevent any untoward incident with respect to the proposed Beef festival today. Some student and democratic organizations called for beef Festival on the campus today while opposing the same some others including Gau Samrakshana Samithi and Akhila Bharatiya Vidyardhi Parishad have called for Gau Pooja.

Osmania University Registrar Suresh Kumar warned of taking stringent action against those who indulge in any activities other than academics and research on the campus. However, tension continued with the two sides sticking to their stand. Meanwhile, BJP and ABVP activists resorted to stone pelting and damaged a few Road Transport Corporation buses protesting arrest of their leaders.
