Tamil Nadu Assembly today passed a resolution seeking international investigation into the alleged war crimes in Srilanka during its internal war.
Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa today introduced the resolution in the House in which she said, India should propose a strong resolution in the United Nations Human Rights Commission to ensure justice and to subject all those who blatantly violated international laws and the Geneva Convention to international inquiry.
The unanimous resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly comes in the backdrop of the UN Human Rights Commission session which is scheduled to meet from 14th of this month to 2nd October, where the UN Human Rights Commissioner’s report on the excesses during the internal war in the island nation would come up for discussion.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa remarked in her introductory address that there are possibilities for seeking an internal inquiry into the alleged war crimes in the UNHRC, which goes against natural justice. She reiterated that even if the US, which earlier sought an international investigation would now try to seek an internal inquiry, India should use diplomacy in the UNHRC to change the stand and to facilitate a global hearing.
