The lockdown has been extended in Tamil Nadu till the end of August. The state Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswamy has said in a statement in Chennai, there will be full lockdown on all the Sundays in the month of August as it happened in July.

There is no change in the restrictions on public transport including air and rail services. However, there are a few relaxations from the existing lockdown as well.

Outside containment areas in Chennai, industries and offices are permitted to operate with 75 per cent of the staff which was earlier restricted to half the strength. Dine-in facilities in hotels remain barred. Places of worship can open only in rural areas with annual income of less than ten thousand rupees.

Provision and vegetable shops have been given an additional one hour from 6 am to 7 pm to run their businesses. E-Pass is necessary to travel from one district to another.
