Sweden has extended support for India’s claim to permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and membership of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR). President Pranab Mukherjee has appreciated the Swedish support.
In his address at the State Banquet hosted by the King of Sweden in Stockholm last night, Mr. Mukherjee also lauded the proactive efforts of Sweden that helped India to achieve observer status in the Arctic Council during the period of Sweden’s Chairmanship.
The President said that the bilateral agreements that have been signed during his visit will lead to further fruitful engagements in many fields. Navtej Sarna, Secretary (West) in Ministry of External Affairs, said that both countries also decided to re-start the strategic dialogue at the level of National Security Advisor.
On the last day of his three-day visit to Sweden, President Pranab Mukherjee will go to Karolinska Institute. The Prestigious Institute situated at Stockholm awards Noble Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
The President will also visit the one of the oldest educational Institute Uppsala University where a sculpture of Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore has been kept , who got the Noble prize in 1913 by the Swedish Society. Mr. Mukherjee will also address a business seminar. The President will reach Belarus later today on the final leg of his two-nation visit.
