A suspected suicide bomber blew himself up close to a police checkpoint in northwestern Pakistan today, killing at least eleven people and wounding more than 20. The dead include police, civilians and at least one child. Officials said, the blast took place in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas, where security forces are fighting the Pakistani Taliban and other militant groups near the border with Afghanistan.

Rescue workers have started evacuating the wounded to a hospital in the city of Peshawar. The injured have been shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has strongly condemned the blast. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
