All preparation have been completed for the second and final phase of assembly polls in Assam to be held tomorrow. A total of 525 candidates are in fray in this phase in 61 seats in Central and Lower Assam.
Additional CEO Nitin Khade said that adequate security arrangement has been made. He said that central armed police forces have been deployed in almost all polling booths. Three helicopters have been kept ready at Kokrajhar, Guwahati and Tezpur for any emergency. Mr. Khade further said that international and inter-state border adjoining Assam has been sealed.
Former Chief Minister and Asom Gana Parishad leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Congress ministers Dr. Nazrul Islam, Rockybul Hussein and Basanta Das, BJP’s Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chandra Mohan Patowary and Ranjit Kumar Das are in the fray. AIUDF President Badruddin Ajmal, Pramila Rani Brahma from BPF and Munin Mahanta of CPI are also in the race.
Election Commission has set up 148 model polling stations in this phase. Special arrangement for elderly persons, divyang, lactating mothers have been made in model booths. Also, 73 all women polling booths have been set up.
VVPT systems will be introduced in 7 assemblies. District administrations have also set up polling booths for leprosy patients and medical staff. There are 1 crore 4 lakh eligible voters in the second phase of polls. On the other hand, over 50 thousand polling personnel have been deployed.
