ECICampaigning for next phase of Assembly elections in Assam & W Bengal ended last evening… In Assam polling will be held on Monday in Lower and Central Assam districts in 61 seats.

A total of 525 candidates, including 48 women are in the fray in second phase.

Hajo has the highest number of candidates at 16 while Sapaguri assembly has the lowest number of candidates at 3.

On Saturday BJP President Amit Shah, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate Sarbanand Sonowal campaigned for the BJP.

From Congress camp, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, state Party President Anjan Dutta, senior leader Salman Khurshid and state Agriculture minister Rockybul Hussein addressed rallies.

Apart from them, AIUDF President Badruddin Ajmal, Asom Gana Parishad’s leaders Atul Bora and Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, BPF President Hagrama Mahilary have also attended rallies to woo voters.

Infiltrations, development and employment generations – were some of the main poll planks in this phase.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh , Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, several Chief Ministers and Union ministers participated in intense poll campaigning during the last couple of days.

Meanwhile, Election Commission has deployed over 50 thousand polling personnel for this phase.

In West Bengal, campaigning ended for 31 Assembly seats in Paschim Medinipur, Bankura and Burdwan districts of the state.Over 70 lakh voters will decide the electoral fate of 163 candidates in the Phase One, Day 2 polling on Monday.

All the seats are poised, mainly, for a triangular contest between the ruling Trinamul Congress, TMC, BJP and the Left-Congress combine candidates.
Parties such as BSP, with 8 candidates and other registered political outfits are also in the fray and so are 17 independents.

Senior leaders from all political parties participated in the electioneering till last minutes, despite severe heat-wave lashing the entire southern region.
Congress MP, Pradip Bhattacharya on Saturday visited CEO’s office in Kolkata and demanded action against TMC for allegedly vitiating the atmosphere on false charges prior to the Monday voting.

On the murder of a party worker, allegedly by Congress activists, in Sabang last night, Senior TMC leader, Partha Chatterjee on Saturday demanded arrest of Congress candidate Manas Ranjan Bhunia while TMC vice-president, Mukul Roy said staring at certain defeat the opponents have come down to murders.

Mr. Bhunia and CPI-M state secretary, Surjya Kanta Mishra refuted the allegations and said TMC is out to create disturbances at the pretext of a stray killing of an anti-social supporter of the party.
