Sri Lanka: 47 naval personnel who tested COVID-19 positive recovered

47 Sri Lankan naval personnel who had tested positive for the COVID-19 recovered today while the country has reported only a dozen cases in the past three days.

The total number of coronavirus recoveries from the navy reached 657 while total recoveries stand at 1196 out of 1877 infections reported so far. The discharged navy men undergo a 14-day quarantine procedure in compliance with the regulations.

The country has 670 active cases while 11 people have died of the infection. No positive case was reported today while eight cases were reported yesterday. Sri Lanka has not seen any community case for almost a month and half as all the cases during the period were from a navy camp and among foreign returnees who were quarantined.

The country is slowly returning to normalcy with schools and colleges scheduled to open from this month end. Meanwhile, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed officials to conduct peraheras and processions of religious places without any spectators. Peraheras are big cultural extravaganza organized with much fanfare and hundreds of people gather to watch it.
