Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico, who was shot yesterday in Handlova, is now in a stable condition but remains serious. According to a hospital official, he underwent five hours of surgery with two teams to treat multiple gunshot wounds.

The assassination attempt on Prime Minister Fico has sent shockwaves throughout Slovakia. He was shot while greeting supporters after chairing a government meeting in the central town of Handlova. The suspected gunman was among a small crowd awaiting the Prime Minister outside the cultural centre.

Meanwhile, President Zuzana Caputova has confirmed the detainment of the suspected gunman by police, urging the public to await further information from law enforcement agencies.
