A ship carrying more than 400 people has reportedly sunk in the Yangtze River in southern China last night. According to official media reports, the ship, Eastern Star, encountered a tornado while traveling along the river in central China’s Hubei Province. At least 400 passengers and 42 crew were on board.
Some 20 people have been rescued so far and work was under way to rescue the remaining passengers. However rescue work is being hampered by strong winds and heavy rain. The ship was travelling from the eastern city of Nanjing to Chongqing in the south-west when it sank.
