Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday congratulated Suvendu Adhikari after he was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s landmark victory in the Assembly elections.

The message, shared by the Bangladesh Awami League on X, conveyed Hasina’s wishes for the success of the new government in the state. She expressed hope that under Adhikari’s leadership, the pace of development in West Bengal would increase further and that the historic ties of friendship and cooperation between India and Bangladesh would continue to deepen.

In her message, Hasina also wished good health and success to all members of the newly formed cabinet and extended her greetings to the people of West Bengal. She stressed the importance of continued cooperation and stronger relations between the two Bengals, highlighting the shared cultural and historical bonds across the border.

Hasina, who has been staying in India since stepping down amid political unrest in Bangladesh in August 2024, said she hoped the new administration would contribute to regional prosperity and stability.

Suvendu Adhikari, who emerged as the face of the BJP’s campaign in the state and defeated Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee from the Bhabanipur constituency, took oath as Chief Minister at a grand ceremony held at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground.

Several newly elected BJP legislators were also inducted into the cabinet. Among those sworn in as ministers were Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu and Nishit Pramanik.
