Delhi Police Terms Email Threats To Schools as Hoax

At least 100 schools in Delhi and at least two schools in Noida received a bomb threat via email on Wednesday morning, prompting mass evacuations. As panicked parents crowded outside the schools, the Ministry of Home Affairs said the emails appeared to be a hoax.

Delhi Police also said it had conducted a thorough check of all schools that received the bomb threat and found nothing. Ravinder Yadav, Special CP, Delhi Police (Crime), said some hospitals also received similar emails on Tuesday.

Delhi Public School’s (DPS) Dwarka and Vasant Kunj units, Mother Marry School in East Mayur Vihar, Sanskriti School, Amity School in Pushp Vihar and DAV School in South West Delhi were among the 100 schools that received the threat. In Noida, DPS and Apeejay School also received similar threats.

Delhi Police has termed email threats to different schools REGARDING BOMB THREAT in the national capital and adjoining areas as hoax call and appealed parents and students not to panic. The Police said that some schools have received threats through email and investigation is underway. It said, so far nothing suspicious has been found in the search.

The Union Home Ministry said that Delhi Police and Security agencies are taking necessary steps in the incident. Meanwhile, Delhi Lieutenant Governor, Vinai Kumar Saxena spoke to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora and sought a detailed report into the issue. Mr Saxena directed Delhi Police to identify the culprits and ensure there are no lapses. He said, the miscreants and culprits will not be spared.

Delhi Education Minister Atishi said, the students were evacuated and school premises were searched by Delhi Police.  She said, so far nothing has been found in any of the schools. Atishi added that the Delhi government is in constant touch with the Police and the schools. Earlier in the morning several schools in Delhi NCR had received email of bomb threat.
