Lungs of Class 10, 12 students no different … stop physical classes of all standards upto Class 12, says Supreme Court

AMN / NEW DELHI

The Supreme Court today pulled up the Delhi government over delay in implementation of stricter anti-pollution measures under stage-4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). The court also emphasized scaling down of the preventive measures would not be permitted without its prior approval.

A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih pointed out that there was a delay in implementation of preventive measures under GRAP- 4 even after the Air Quality Index (AQI) touched alarming levels in the national capital. The bench noted that stage 4 of GRAP must be invoked as soon as the AQI reaches between 300 to 400.

The Supreme Court asked the Delhi government about the steps taken to curb pollution and asked why the implementation of stage III of GRAP was delayed by three days. Noting, that the lungs of a student in Class 10 were no different from those of a student

Yesterday, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) announced stricter pollution control measures for the Delhi-NCR under GRAP-4, effective from 8 am today, including a ban on truck entry and a temporary halt on construction at public projects.

CM Atishi attacks BJP over air pollution, says north India facing medical crisis

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Monday raised alarm over the severe air pollution engulfing a large swathe of north India, describing the situation as a medical emergency caused by rampant stubble burning in several “BJP-ruled” states.

But the BJP-led central government, instead of addressing the crisis, is focussed on political blame games, she told a press conference here.

“North India is choking because of the Modi government’s inaction. Stubble burning incidents have escalated in BJP-ruled states like Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, while AAP-governed Punjab has registered a decline,” Atishi said.
