Supreme Court today directed Karnataka to release 2,000 cusecs of Cauvery water every day to Tamil Nadu till further orders.

The Apex Court asked Karnataka and Tamil Nadu governments to maintain peace and harmony in their respective states. It said, sense of citizenry must prevail in the two states.

Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed by Tamil Nadu government over the water sharing of Cauvery river with Karnataka and some other states. A bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra, Amitava Roy and AM Khanwilkar had earlier deferred its direction to constitute Cauvery Management Board and had ordered formation of a high level central technical team.

This team led by central water commission chairman G S Jha submitted its report to the apex court yesterday.
