The Supreme Court Monday asked Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi to ensure the safety of the plaintiff in the Sabarimala case who has received death threats.

Naushad Ahmed Khan is one of the two lawyers who had filed a plea in the Apex Court, against the bar on women in the menstrual age group from entry in the famous Sabarimala Temple of Kerala.

Mr Khan told the court that he has received more than 700 telephone calls since Wednesday and expressed his desire to withdraw the case.

But the Supreme Court had on Friday said it was not possible to withdraw a Public Interest Litigation in this manner. The case will now come up on February 8.
