Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that rural India will play a major role in driving steel demand growth. Addressing a function in New Delhi, Mr Pradhan said, government has launched a collaborative campaign – Ispati Irada to increase appropriate usage of steel. He said, growing economic activity, implementation of government schemes and rising incomes will drive steel usage in rural areas.

The Minister said, the domestic industry must leverage innovation and new technologies to identify sustainable and cost effective options for steel manufacturing. Mr Pradhan said, steel per capita consumption in the country is currently much lower than the global average is set to grow.
