Rich tributes were paid to martyred BSF Jawan Gurnam Singh at his wreath-laying ceremony at BSF Jammu-Frontier Headquarter in Palora, Jammu this morning. The jawan, who was critically injured in Pakistani firing in Hiranagar sector along the International Border on Friday, had succumbed to his injuries last night.The body has been sent to his native village in RS Pura where the cremation will take place tomorrow.

Among others, Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Industries and Commerce Chander Prakash Ganga, Local MP Shamsher Singh Manhas, Additional DG BSF Arun Kumar and heads of local civil and police administration presented floral tributes to the martyr.

Speaking to media on the occasion, Additional DG BSF Arun Kumar said that Gurnam was targeted by Pakistani Rangers maliciously because, a day before,he had played the pivotal role in pushing back the terrorists from across the IB foiling an infiltration bid.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has saluted the valor and supreme sacrifice of BSF jawan Gurnam Singh. In a tweet, Mr Singh said, Gurnam Singh gave a shining example of sheer bravery on the border and gave his life for the nation. Offering his condolences to the bereaved family, the Home Minister said, he is saddened and pained by the demise of the BSF Jawan.
