GSTThe reduced GST rates on a wide range of common use items have come into effect from today. Eating out at restaurants will now cost less as the tax rate for restaurants has been cut to 5 per cent. On Friday, the GST Council had decided to reduce rates on 178 items from 28 percent to 18 percent.

Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has asked state enforcement departments to ensure that the benefits of lower GST rates are passed on to consumers.

He said, a mechanism has been put in place to monitor changes in maximum retail price on a daily basis.

The Minister said, companies will be required to paste stickers of MRP with new GST rates on products which are ready for retail.
